Oftentimes, when thinking of or discussing home care for Veterans (or surviving Spouses), our immediate thoughts flash to an aged population in need of geriatric care services. Imagine my surprise when I walked in to complete an assessment and my client was a 22 year-old sailor! We are no longer faced with only providing care for our elders, but our country and medical system is faced with providing care to a younger population with different needs and a potentially longer need for care.
In 2018, the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics found that 41% of Veterans who served in Gulf War Era II (post 9/11) had a service connected disability versus 25% of all Veterans. This means that the face and needs of Veterans who need home care assistance has changed and will continue to change. As service providers to service personnel, it is our responsibility to provide services to meet the needs of all who require them; adaptability and resilience are two qualities that we have in common with our Veterans and their Spouses.
At Hadassah Home Care, we recognize the need for diverse skill sets to address the diverse needs of our service population. That’s why our Care Team is composed of individuals with treatment backgrounds with different care populations like geriatrics, traumatic brain injury, mental health, spinal cord injury, vocational counseling, exercise science, and holistic practices such as yoga and meditation. We are committed to giving our best to those we serve!
